Coucher du Soleil is a slouchy, beret-style hat featuring an original Art Nouveau Fair Isle pattern paired with Chroma’s slow color-changes to give the illusion of bare branches silhouetted against a stunning sunset, or “coucher du soleil” à la Française!

Pattern is written for one size, average adult 21”-23” head diameter. Includes written directions and chart for color pattern.

Yarn requirements: This hat is knit in the round and requires two colors of yarn, preferably one that is color-changing for the background color (Chroma) and one that is solid color (Stroll). Pattern uses about ½ of a skein of each yarn.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The colorway “Smoothie” is no longer available from Knitpicks, but will work with any other slow color-changing yarn. I recommend trying Crystal Palace Mini Mochi if you want to just purchase one skein of yarn, or you could try working it with 3 colors of Palette as the background color: “Mai Tai Heather”, “Orange” & “Conch” to get a similar effect.
Alternately, this hat looks great using two contrasting solid colors or a tweed as the background color (Stroll Tweed). One pattern tester used Stroll Tweed in “Wellies Heather” and it looks like a starry night sky!
