This unusually constructed hat is knit from the top down with modular triangles pieced together as you go. Once the top circle is complete, the edge stitches are picked up and the sides are knitted in the round. The unusual construction method will yield interesting color effects if the pattern is knit in the suggested graduated color yarn.

Gauge 4 st/1 inch in stockinette, 4.5 st/inch in cable pattern

One size - Adult Sample measures 21 inches without blocking.
Size is easily adjusted by adjusting length or blocking.

Requires size 8 US circular needle, cable needle, stitch marker and darning needle.

This hat was inspired by a similarly shaped hat that I purchased in Ireland several years ago. To honor its Irish inspiration and Aran motif, the pattern will be offered free through St. Patrick’s day.

Errata: Original version said pick up 78 stitches after joining the triangles into a circle, it should be pickup 80. I have uploaded a corrected version, which also gives more explanation about crossing the cable at beginning of round 8.
