The brilliant colours dancing across the body of this hat reminded me of flowers dancing across a meadow. It would look equally beautiful in all natural tones as well.

Fair-Isle patterning makes a surprisingly warm hat, even when worked in a fine yarn. The extra layers of stranded yarns create pockets to hold the heat in close to the head.

Colours: Cascade 220 Fingering – Shades 1023 (pink/mauve), 1024 (dark pink), 1025 (magenta), 1031 (turquoise), 1032 (teal), 7827 (yellow) and 8393 (dark blue)

Gauge Changes when working Fair-isle: For many people working the fair-isle technique can cause their gauge to tighten; this is caused by the stranding of the yarn too tightly across the back of the work. If you find that this happens to you, try knitting the fair-isle sections of your hat on a larger needle, maybe a 3.5 mm, and use your regular size needle for the plain areas of your tam.
