On March 11, 2011, Japan suffered an historic earthquake and tsunami that left extreme destruction in their wake. Thousands of people died, whole towns were totally crushed, farmlands and water sources were ruined, families were destroyed, and survivors were left without food, water, housing, or clothes. This was a tragedy with effects that will last for decades. Japanese people believe that handmade items are very valuable and special. I have created this pattern (DanDoh Scarf) as a way to connect with her homeland and to help the Japanese people in their time of trouble.

With our knitting we can build a bridge connecting people around the world. With this pattern we can create a memorial to those who suffered from this tragedy. It is good to help in the immediate and good to help over the long term. Those who would like to knit for the survivors in Japan can send their knits to Tempe Yarn and Fiber, 1415 E. University Dr. #A-102, Tempe, AZ, 85281.
