This pattern is the first in a range of clothing for larger ladies, which combines the beauty of crochet with the practicality of fabric.

This pattern is not written to be followed exactly, more as a guideline to creating your own unique look. Use your own choice of fabric together with thread which either compliments or contrasts. Crocheting into fabric is not such an exact science as with following a pattern created with only one medium.

The Vest Top pattern comes in 3 different sizes which you will need to enlarge using the graph.

A calculator will also be useful for working out the number of stitches you will need.

Skirt: 2 metres of cotton or cotton blend fabric (115 cm wide), 3 balls of Twilleys Southern Comfort crochet cotton (or equivalent no. 10 thread),
Vest top: 1 metre of cotton or cotton blend fabric (150 cm wide) or 1.25 metre of cotton or cotton blend fabric (115 cm wide, 2 balls of Twilleys Southern Comfort crochet cotton (or equivalent no. 10 thread).

Equipment: 1.50 mm hook, scissors, Needle for sewing in ends.

Tension (UK terms): Using a 1.50 mm hook and size 10 thread, I get 9 dc to 2.5 cm/1 in.
Working a tension square is very important. If your tension is different, you will need to adjust the amount of sts worked into the fabric accordingly.
