This pattern is a twist on the classic cellular baby blanket with the spaces between stitches forming a diamond pattern. This is a simple but effective design making it achievable for beginners with little experience in crochet. The open weave of the finished blanket makes it a perfect gift to hook up as a gift for a spring or summer baby.

Although this pattern is suitable for a beginner, watch your step when it comes to the positioning of the chain gaps because if any are out of place it will throw your pattern off course.

The blanket is worked in DK with a 4mm hook. Tension is not important except to ensure that your tension is even throughout. Any yarn worked with a suitably sized hook will work but the size of the end piece will vary. Using DK and a 4mm hook, A tension of 17 stitches and 11 rows of treble crochet to measure 10cm will give a blanket of finished size approximately 70cm x 75cm.

For the images featured I worked the 12 stripes using a repetition of 6 colours (Stylecraft Special DK in aspen, duck` egg blue, plum, parma violet, shrimp & apricot). For this you will need 1 x 100g ball of yarn in each colour.

Throughout the pattern the spaces that form the triangle/diamond shapes are worked by using a chain to bridge the gap between the trebles so wherever there is a chain in the pattern you skip a tr from the row below.
