The mitts are worked with a smaller size needle than the yarn label recommends; this is done to create a denser and therefore warmer knitted fabric. The thumb gusset is worked as a “palm gusset” giving the wearer more comfort around the base of the thumb. The diamond shaped lace design gives the mitts a little extra elegance.
