Experienced due to the use of short rows.

The gauge is not hugely important, if you have a looser gauge your shawl will have a little more drape and bit a little larger. If your gauge is tighter, your shawl will be more dense and a little shorter.

The shawl has a slight curvature, so when it is laid flat on a table, from starting point to ending point it is 48”. At the widest part of it it is 50” and the length of one wedge is 22”. The widest part of the wedges is 4” (keeping in mind that each wedge is just slightly different-but they are all just at or around 4” at the widest portion). The sample shown used 11 wedges.

It is up to the knitter, to take part in this design process (I LOVE choose your own endings) and pick which wedge you want to go in which order. Two of these are colored wedges and one is a main color wedge. It is also up to you how many wedges you want to complete, if you want your shawl longer or shorter. This will change the amount of yarn used, so when in doubt, buy more! The main color yarn accounts for a little more than half of the yarn total. I did not use a full skein for any of my colors-but you may want extra if you want a longer shawl.

This is NOT the pattern for you if you have never done short rows, There are also quite a few color changes in the middle of the piece, so if you do not enjoy weaving in ends, again, this is NOT the pattern for you.

I wanted to make a pattern that showed my love for nature, and in this shawl I’ve tried to capture my love of dragons as well, it is supposed to be a cross between a dragon and a butterfly (or dragonfly).
