We love to camp and hike. Although we live in a warm climate, we often head to the mountains where it is chilly. After knitting my teenagers several scarves, my wonderful husband Craig wanted one for our adventures. He said make it simple, light, soft, and warm.

For Craig’s scarf, I used a diagonal basketweave pattern and Berroco Ultra Alpaca. Not only is it light, soft, and warm, but it’s very affordable. Any worsted weight yarn can be substituted.

If you haven’t ever used charts, this is easy to follow. Use a ruler or highlight tape and knit or purl the stitches based on the chart.
