I used a worsted weight yarn and a 3.5mm hook but really it can be made with any yarn and the right corresponding hook.
i chose a cotton yarn that was nice and flexible so that it would roll easily. However, if you prefer another type of yarn, just crocheting into the back loop would create a more flexible fabric.
The pattern can of course be adapted to fit knitting needles.
