I use circulars for this beanie using the magic loop method, but you can just as easily use double pointed needles (dpns). If you are complete averse to circulars or dpns, you could probably knit this straight and stitch up the seam along the length of the beanie – this seems like way too much extra work, so I prefer knitting in the round. The pattern is written for knitting in the round.

Please use the needle size that suits your yarn and adjust stitch numbers to obtain the preferred size. There are no increases after your rib so the stitch count should remain the same as your cast/on up to the point where you start decreasing for the crown.

This pattern is for newborns and 0-3 months (provided in brackets). Any soft double knitting yarn would be suitable. If baby yarn is too expensive, and you are limited to a plain double knit - feel the yarn properly before you start knitting. Just imagine if it’s rough on your skin – what it would feel like on a baby’s head.
