This is a basic recipe pattern for a felted bag, knit in the round. The idea is that you spin and knit from your hand spun experimenting with breeds, colour and dimensions to make your own version.

Skill Level – Beginner to Intermediate

Fibre – For this project I used 200g/7.05 oz Shetland Hand Dyed Top from my hand dyed range. I spun 2 skeins of 100g Navajo plied yarn in a chunky weight. I knitted 174g/6.14oz for my bag, but as hand spinning varies I would recommend spinning the full 200g/7.05 oz. You could always crochet a flower from the excess to adorn your bag!

Finishing Materials – Bag handles in wood, bamboo or plastic, a closure clasp or popper and a Decorative Button. I tend to buy these after I have felted and dried my bag, so that I have the finished dimensions to account for. As varying wool breeds and differences in hand spinning will give different starting and finishing dimensions this is the best stance to take on buying your finishing materials.

Needles – 5mm/US8/UK6 DPNs and circulars on an 80cm/32” and 40cm/16” cord.

Finished measurements – Top edge 28cm (11 inches), bottom edge 16cm (6 ¼ inches), depth (excluding handles 22cm (8 ¾ inches).
