Einstein hat is a cable-banded, slouchy beret or tam.

Stitches used are cables, make one (M1), purl, and knit. You will also need to pick up stitches on the top of the cable band for the top of the hat.

This pattern is charted and has a 28 row repeat for the band. The top of the hat is a 6 row repeat. Decreases on the top of the hat occur in the purl rows of the pattern.

You will need US #3 circulars in size 24” or less. US#3 double points. You will also need a yarn needle to sew band together and finish off the top of the hat along with sewing in ends.

Approximately 250 - 300 yards of sportweight yarn will complete this hat in the gauge recommended.

Gauge is 21 stitches; 28 rows for a 4”x4” swatch in stockinette.
