Ellen’s Christmas Shawl
2017 Sunshine Charlotte Designs Shawl CAL

My favorite Christmas movie is White Christmas, and I think nearly every girl who watched the end of that movie wanted the big red dresses with white trim that the Hanes sisters wore. I’m not a little girl any more, but that desire still guided this design to create a charming capelet with a fur-like trim and oversize hood.

This Intermediate level pattern is worked primarily using tr crochet. The pointed motifs around the collar are created with fptr and fptr2tog, so this pattern could be a great opportunity to learn some new stiches! You’ll work the capelet from the neck down, then use the opposite side of the foundation row to work the hood up from the bottom. While the instructions remain the same for all sizes, the sizing chart and color-coded stitch counts help you adjust each row for sizes from Adult Small all the way up to Adult 3XL!

Just in time for Christmas, this lovely capelet will be the perfect piece for you as you go wassailing, caroling, or tree hunting!

The Ellen Shawl is the December installment of the 2017 Sunshine Charlotte Designs Crochet ALong, which features a different shawl pattern each month. This year’s CAL projects are meant to be donated to a local children’s hospital - specifically a cancer ward - so they can be handed out to mothers who suffer the pain of watching their child be ill. I design and donate these shawls in memory of my daughter Charlotte, who died of brain cancer in July 2015.
