DETAILS
When Layla from Qing Fibre emailed me to see if I wanted to collaborate on this year’s Advent calendar with a focus on family, I knew exactly what I wanted to design! Embrace combines the brilliant and trusty combo of fading and garter stitch to create the perfect cowl. And with sizes for both kiddos and adults - it’s perfect for gift knitting!

This cowl is a fun and engaging knit that is knit sideways, twisted one half turn and seamed to close.

SIZES
Toddler (Youth, Adult)

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Circumference - 19.5 (24.25, 29)”/49.5 (61.5, 73.5) cm

YARN REQUIREMENTS
These are just approximations. Total yarn usage will depend on the yarn you use (fiber content, ply, etc.), your personal gauge, and any modifications you may make.

12 mini-skeins of Fingering weight yarn to create a fade (20 g/88 yds/80 m)
Total approximate yardage per size: 180 (203, 220) g/792 (897, 968) yds/725 (820, 886) m

SUGGESTED YARN
For this cowl I collaborated with Qing Fibre for their Advent calendar! They dyed up some beautiful mini-skein fade sets that work perfectly for an accessory project!

SUGGESTED NEEDLES
Size US 6/4 mm - 16”/40 cm circular needle

NOTIONS
Scissors, tapestry needle, blocking wires and pins, and a row counter is recommended

GAUGE
Pre-blocking: 25 sts & 42 rnds = 4”/10 cm
Post-blocking: 22 sts & 38 rnds = 4”/10 cm

TECHNIQUES TO INDULGE IN

Knitting in the round
Fading
Marling (holding 2 strands of yarn together as one)
Slipping Stitches
Binding Off
Seaming

YARN SUBSTITUTION IDEAS
Any fingering weight yarn should sub in nicely, as long as you can get gauge! This is an AWESOME stash buster project. Grab all those odd and ends from other projects and see if you can’t arrange them in a fade! This cowl would also work well with a gradient set of minis, or as a solid color!
