A pattern with sizes from child’s through men’s, this hat uses a stitch pattern modified from one found on the Dura-Europos fragment, a several thousand year old piece of cloth found on an archeological dig near modern-day Syria. This fragment may have been knitted or may have been created using a different technique called nailbinding. Either way, it is interesting to work, produces a textured, geometric pattern that works great for men’s and women’s hats, and is thick and warm due to twisting all the stitches.

Charted and written instructions given for stitch pattern.
Instructions for working i-cord cast on included.

Skill Level
Intermediate. Techniques used include increasing, decreasing, short rows, knitting through back loops, i-cord cast on, and knitting in the round.
