A pattern with sizes from child’s through men’s, this hat uses a stitch pattern modified from one found on the Dura-Europos fragment, a several thousand year old piece of cloth found on an archeological dig near modern-day Syria. This fragment may have been knitted or may have been created using a different technique called nailbinding. Either way, it is interesting to work, produces a textured, geometric pattern that works great for men’s and women’s hats, and is thick and warm due to twisting all the stitches.

Charted and written instructions given for stitch pattern.
