Erämaa is a Finnish word meaning wilderness or more specifically,
leaving the comfort of your home to go out into the wilderness which is exactly what these soft and cozy yet hardworking mitts were made to accompany. With a nod towards both traditional Lopi color-work and the modern technique of an after-thought thumb, Erämaa combines the best of old and new. Riihivilla Aarni, the yarn used for this pattern, is grown, processed and spun in Finland. The four shades of grey are the natural, un-dyed colors of the Finnsheep wool and the yarn itself is hardy, rustic and soft to the touch. These mitts knit up quickly and use minimal yarn, making them great for a last minute foray into the wilderness

Erämaa is one of 6 accessory patterns in The Wool Project collection e-book. The Wool Project is more than just a pattern collection. It’s a catalyst to spark your journey of exploration through the wonders of wool. Each of the patterns in The Wool Project was chosen to showcase a particular breed-specific wool yarn; to give knitters a taste of the distinct characteristics of each sheep’s fleece transformed into a beautiful skein of yarn.
