One of the first things the ever practical dwarf women said when they at long last returned to the Lonely Mountain was, “Now that the dragon is gone, it’s terribly drafty in here!” So, they unpacked their wool that they had brought with them from the Iron Hills and the Blue Mountains, had their husbands forge them silver knitting needles, and began to knit garments to drive away the chill of Erebor. In skillfully worked cables they echoed the carvings they saw about them in the great halls, and as their menfolk labored to repair the structure of the mountain kingdom, the dwarven women worked to make it a home.

After designing my Erebor hat, I knew that I wasn’t done with dwarven cables just yet. I love fingerless gloves, and I thought it would be nice to have a pair that matched my hat. I wanted the main cable to go down the back of my hand, and the detail of a little cable going up the side of the thumb as well as keeping things very square and dwarven. Perhaps Bilbo picked up a pair similar to this to keep his hands warm in the great stone halls of the King Under the Mountain!

These fit my hands nice and snugly; playing around with gauge will let you find a fit that you like.
