A raglan pullover or zip-front cardigan with a cabled hem and V-neck collar.

Both the pullover and cardigan begin with the V-neck collar, knit from center back to center front. Stitches are picked up around the collar for the upper body, which is knit back and forth to the collar point. The cardigan body is knit back and forth, while the pullover body is knit in the round. The sleeves, also worked downward from the collar, may be knit flat or in the round. Both the cardigan and pullover feature a curved hem with cabled detail. The cardigan hem is symmetric at the center front; the pullover hem is asymmetric with the cable detail on the right side.

Cardigan sizes: approximately 35.5, 37.5, 40 (42.5, 45, 47.5, 49) 53, 58.5 inches or 90, 95, 101.5 (108, 114, 120.5, 124.5) 134.5, 148.5 cm (finished bust measurement)

Pullover sizes: approximately 32.5, 34.75, 37 (39.5, 42, 44.5, 46.75) 50, 55.5 inches or 82.5, 88, 94 (100, 106.5, 113, 118.5) 127, 141 cm (finished bust measurement)

Fitting notes: The design is intended to have about 2 to 6 inches (5 to 15 cm) of ease. For the cardigan, you may prefer to have about 4 to 6 inches (10 to 15 cm) of ease to allow the garment to fit over other clothing. In these pictures, the green pullover is knit in the 37 inch size and is displayed on a mannequin with a 33 inch (84 cm) bust size (measured around fullest point of bust). The ivory cardigan is knit in the 40 inch size, displayed over a thin turtleneck on a mannequin with a 33 inch (84 cm) bust size. The cardigan instructions include waist shaping (either cabled, as shown in the picture, or using simple increases and decreases). The pullover does not have waist shaping. The pattern is easily adaptable to add short-row bust shaping (instructions are not provided in the pattern). The body and sleeve lengths are easily adjusted by changing the number of rows/rounds worked.

Skill set: experienced with advanced cables.

Gauge: The garment body is knit at 5 sts and 7 rows to 1” (2.5 cm) in stockinette stitch, either in the round (for the pullover body) or flat. Use different-sized needles for knitting in the round and knitting back-and-forth if necessary. The collar and hem of the pullover or cardigan is knit back-and-forth at 8 rows to 1” (2.5 cm) in stockinette stitch; precise stitch gauge is not important.

Yarn: Choose a yarn that can be knit to the two gauges stated above. The cables work well in cotton and silk as well as wool. If you choose an inelastic fiber such as cotton or silk, choose a worsted weight yarn. If you choose a resilient, compressible yarn such as wool, either a worsted weight or aran weight yarn may be suitable. If you choose an inelastic fiber, the fabric will have more drape, but the tighter gauge at the collar will help enhance the cables.
