Inspiration
What is your Essence of Summer? What smells or sounds or feelings or moments makes you say: yes, now it’s Summer?
I have an instant association of Summer when I smell sunscreen or petrichor (the smell of rain on dry earth when it hasn’t rained for a long time) or woodfire (usually barbeque). It’s so funny that we react so strongly to smells when it comes to associations and memories.
The Essence of Summer wrap is made out of three parts: ‘A cooling breeze after a hot Summer day’, ‘Woodfire’ and ‘Petrichor’. I hope to take you with me on a Summer evening, when you’re outside, feeling the scorching hot pavement on your bare soles, the cooling breeze on your face, the smell of woodfire in the air, the pressure of humidity and finally the cooling Summer rain, where the sun reflects golden on thousands of drops <3

About the pattern

  • The pattern is available for free on my blog OR you can purchase a PDF through Etsy or Ravelry for just €1.99. Your purchase will include the full pattern as well as a printerfriendly version to save paper.
  • The pattern comes in a written format with a few pictures to help you along the way.
  • The wrap uses the following stitches (US terms): ch, sc, hdc, dc, fpdc, fptr and fptr2tog

About the yarn
I made two versions, as you could read about in this blogpost.
One colorway is inspired by the vanishing evening sun reflecting pink on the floating clouds against the dark blue sky. I used Scheepjes Organicon in pink (Apple Blossom, 207) and blue (Fresh Air, 217). You’ll need 3 balls of both.
The second colorway is inspired by Summer rainshowers when the sun is still out and the sunlight is reflecting on all the big drops of rain, casting a golden glow in the air. I used Scheepjes Bamboo Soft for this colorway in Golden Nugget (no. 260) and Antique Silver (no. 264). You’ll need 4 balls of both.

Yarn substitutes
If you don’t have Scheepjes Organicon or Bamboo Soft readily available, you could also opt for Scheepjes Catona or Cotton 8. They are both cotton yarns and look like the original used yarn. You will need 600 meters of each color for this wrap. That’s 5 balls of each color of Scheepjes Catona or 4 balls of each color of Scheepjes Cotton 8.

The pattern was tested in English. The Dutch version was not tested, so little typos may occur. Please contact me through email if you have found a mistake, or if you need help with the pattern.
