Each step of Exaltation holds something special. We begin with a garter tab cast-on and establish a border that defines the upper edge of the shawl. The pi-shawl shaping begins. We move on to a mesh stitch that is created by sharing the center stitch in a clever way to keep things centered. There are dip stitches that lay loops over the knit background. You haven’t worked dip stitches? We can do it together with a step-by-step photo tutorial. And then we work small lace half-circles – an echo of the shape of the shawl. These half-circles have lace shaping on both the right and the wrong side. There is just one wrong side decrease stitch to learn, so don’t ya worry about that. Oh, and to finish it off, there is a garter stitch applied border accented with a knot stitch. It’s all worked in the pi-shawl math wizardry set out by Elizabeth Zimmerman.

So much to explore - garter tab cast-on, working flat, knit, purl, yarnover increase, right and left leaning decreases, centered single decrease, centered double decrease, a right and wrong side double decrease and right / left dip stitches.
