This hat makes me think of the Montreal Exposition of 1967. Notably the US pavilion by the American architect Buckminster Fuller. This Geodesic dome became a beloved Montreal landmark.

Knitted in the round from the brim up, it uses stranded knitting and cabling techniques. Written instructions and charts are available until the crown decrease section for which there is only written instructions.
