These mittens have the same shape as the traditional Norwegian Selbu mittens. The size of the mittens is adjustable by knitting them in a smaller or bigger gauge.

I came up with the pattern in a bit of a dark mood after reading about trash and micro/nano plastics that had made their way into the oceans, decomposing very slowly, littering coastlines, and harming marine creatures that mistake the trash for food.
Maybe these mittens will help me and others remember to reduce our plastic consumption. In winter, at least…
