Fissure was inspired by a trip I took about a year back. We were stuck in traffic on a highway, and I remember looking out the window at this great wall of rock where they had cut through the mountain while building the road. It had been raining, so the wall was wet, bringing out all the amazing colors of the different strata. Most of the wall was very dark, but every once in a while there would be a brilliant layer of gold, orange, pink, or pale grey.

The varying textures and colors of this shawl is my tribute to that small, random moment in traffic, finding wonder in something we drive past without seeing all the time.
