PATTERN DETAILS: Pretty cluster stitches form the textured crown of this 1920’s flapper style hat. Gentle shaping toward the back of the cloche’s brim creates a comfortable fit. A contrasting band and cute looped flower complete the look. The looped flower may be permanently attached to the hat or, with the application of an optional purchased pinback, use the flower separately as an embellishment for your scarves and handbags, or wear it as a brooch.

SIZE: One size fits most women and teens.

SKILL LEVEL: With its simple shaping and color changes, I would rate this pattern as EASY +. The hat is worked in rounds, from the crown to the brim. All pattern stitches are fully described.

MATERIALS: The featured yarn is Knit Picks® Swish Worsted Weight yarn, a luxurious 100% superwash merino yarn sold in 50 gram balls of 110 yards (100.5 m). You will need two balls of your main color (cornmeal) and one ball of a contrasting color (allspice).

If you wish to substitute yarn, look for a yarn with a crochet gauge of approximately 11-14 sc = 4” (10 cm) when using a size I/9 – K/10-1/2 (5.5mm – 6.5 mm) hooks.

You will also need:

  • Crochet hooks, sizes H/8 (5 mm) and J/10 (6.0 mm) or size(s) needed to obtain correct gauge.
  • Tapestry needle for finishing and weaving in ends.
  • Safety Pin or purchased Stitch Marker.
  • Purchased Pinback (optional).
