Forage is an asymmetrical shawl with lace, garter stitch and a
fluttering picot edging. Simple enough to allow enjoyment of your yarn but sophisticated enough to keep your interest, Forage is designed to showcase the naturally hand-dyed, small batch yarn that comes from two animals living happily on a small farm in North Carolina: Mathilde the Suffolk sheep and Xantheus the alpaca. The fiber was lovingly grown, spun and dyed in the shadow of the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina and that local symbiosis is captured in this beautiful and unique yarn from Fern Fiber. The blend of alpaca fiber and Suffolk wool gives elasticity and drape while retaining the bouncy softness and memory of wool. This translates well into a shawl that wears beautifully and is soft, rustic and full of the vibrancy of a truly local farm yarn.

Forage is one of 6 accessory patterns in The Wool Project collection e-book. The Wool Project is more than just a pattern collection. It’s a catalyst to spark your journey of exploration through the wonders of wool. Each of the patterns in The Wool Project was chosen to showcase a particular breed-specific wool yarn; to give knitters a taste of the distinct characteristics of each sheep’s fleece transformed into a beautiful skein of yarn.
