This pillow is made using the tapestry crochet technique which forms a tight but workable fabric that isn’t too stiff but still thick and durable. It fits perfectly on a 20” by 20” “FJÄDRAR” duck filled throw pillow from IKEA, but any pillow of equivalent size will work.

This pillow cover is basically crocheted as a tube, and then the ends are sewn closed with the pillow inside. If you would prefer to have the pillow cover be removable, buttons or a zipper could be added at the end. The instructions are given as an annotated chart.

Colours:
There are nine different colours of yarn used in the pictured pillow. The least amount of colours that could be used to still maintain all pattern elements is five. The pillow has four different “sections”, each divided by a stripe of a colour not used anywhere else in the pillow. The first three sections are repeated twice in the pattern, symmetrically on the opposite side of the centre, but the middle section is only completed once in the centre of the pillow. The first three sections have two colours in each, and the fourth section has two unique colours as well as one repeated colour from each section one and section two.

All of the yarn used is Bernat Handicrafter Cotton Solids except for the two colours noted that are from the “Scented” collection, in the following colours:
Colour 1: French Blue
Colour 2: Lavender (scented collection)
Colour 3: White
Colour 4: Teal
Colour 5: Blueberry
Colour 6: Chamomile (scented collection)
Colour 7: Tangerine
Colour 8: Navy
Colour 9: Coral Rose
One of each ball is needed, except for colour 4, where 2 balls are needed.

Hook:
3.5 mm hook with worsted weight cotton yarn
A smaller hook than is recommended for the yarn is used to create a tight stitch with minimal gaps. The recommended size hook for the yarn used is 5mm and a 3.5 mm hook is used. Whatever hook size is needed to create the gauge listed below should be used.

Gauge:
9 sts by 9 rows= 2” by 2” square in single crochet
