These essential little joggers were designed to let the wonderful coziness of garter stitch shine. Thoughtful details set it apart, elevating the look of the finished garment. A folded-over ribbed casing, faux-seams down the sides, a discreet gusset and short rows in the seat area, as well as gathered leg at the ankle all come together to give a particularly pleasing impression and to achieve a comfortable and practical garment.

CONSTRUCTION:

These pants are knit seamlessly and top-down from the waist to the ankle ribbing, with a “faux” seam at each side. Simplified short rows (no previous knowledge required) worked in the seat area as well as a gusset (seamed at the crotch using a three-needle bind off OR grafting) help achieve a good fit. The pants are also suitable for bulky or cloth diapers as well as for children who wear no diapers.

SKILLS REQUIRED:

Casting on, knitting, purling, yarn over, increasing, decreasing, knitting in the round, three-needle bind off (link to video tutorial provided), picking up stitches, binding off.

SIZES:

NB (3mo, 6mo, 12mo // 18mo-2yo, 3yo)
To fit waist: 16 (18, 19, 20 // 21, 21.25) inches or 40.5 (45.5, 48.5, 51 // 53.5, 54) cm.
Garment waist (under ribbing): 16 (18.25, 19, 20.25 // 21, 21.75) inches or 40 (45.5, 47.5, 50.5 // 52.5, 54.5) cm.

In general it’s best to select a size based on the child’s actual waist measurement. You can also choose a size according to how much ease you’d like the garment to have.

YARN REQUIREMENTS:

Approximately 300 (350, 400, 500 // 600, 700) yards or 274 (320, 366, 457 // 549, 640) meters of sport to dk weight yarn
Size 3mo sample above is worked in De Rerum Natura’s Ulysse (colorway Caramel).
Note: This yarn isn’t superwash. Any yarn of the same weight can be substituted.

GAUGE:

22 sts x 46 rounds (i.e. 23 ridges) = 4 inches or 10 cm in garter stitch in the round.
Please adjust your needle size if needed to achieve gauge.

NEEDLES:

  • US 4 or 3.5 mm diameter circular needle (or size needed to match garter stitch gauge) 16” or 40 cm in length
