From Interweave Knits, Holiday 2007: “Cathy Carron’s Garter Mug Cozies stretch to fit most mugs and are easily altered to fit others. A quick two-piece construction lets these cozies knit up in a flash: Knit a set in different shades of the same color and slip them over vintage mugs for a quirky gift.”

Notes:

  • These directions are for a standard mug that measures about 4” high with a 3.5” diameter. You can easily alter this pattern to fit any size mug. There are basically two sections - the base and the rise; either can readily be sized to fit the mug at hand.
  • Embellish a cozy with embroidery as a gift for your coworker or coffee-loving friend or sew decorative buttons to the rise section. For gifting, tie the cozy onto a brand new mug filled with candies, colored marbles, or knitting supplies like markers, a tape measure, double-pointed needles, et cetera.
