This is a simple asymmetrical elongated triangle knit shawl with a shifting central “spine” that is actually an 8-stitch cable with eyelets. It is completely reversible. It can be knit with any weight yarn - simply change your needle size to match whatever yarn you have, leaning toward a looser gauge for nice drape. The pattern is written for a light-ish fingering somewhere in the 450yd/100g range and while one hank will make a sweet shawlette/triangular scarf, 2-3 hanks will make a lovely shoulder shawl, with the larger size approaching a shlanket! Whatever weight you choose, you can adapt the pattern to fit as the two sections (increasing, then moving the spine) are based on gram/oz weight of yarn.

If you choose to knit the larger size, I recommend using a less-dense/lighter yarn with nice drape as the garter gives the shawl a lot of body.

NOTE: I take no credit for patterning this overall style of shawl with a shifting central spine - I understand that Martina Behm was the first one to publish a pattern in this style - thank you, Martina! I haven’t found one modified like this with a central reversible cable.

Details include a central 8-stitch cable “spine” with eyelets on either side and an Icelandic cast-off.
