A completely reversible, versatile and unisex pattern, the Paper Bag Hat is adaptable to your preferences: long and slouchy or a perfectly-fitting beanie. If you want, you can knit your entire hank and still have both options as the brim can be folded over a couple of times.

This pattern is written for sport both sport and DK weight yarns on two separate patterns; however, if you know your gauge and preferred needle sizes for other yarn weights you can easily modify it to fit your head measurement as long as the stitch count is divisible by 4. I recommend keeping to a tight gauge around the band area as there is no ribbing to assist with ease.

PLEASE NOTE: There is a correction in the crown decrease section, please see the latest version. Apologies for any difficulties!!

Skill Level Advanced beginner
Yarn Sport or DK weight, 1 x 100g hank or less (pattern can be easily modified)
Gauge Sport 4” Stockinette = 26 sts x 40 rounds on smaller needles, gently blocked DK 4” stockinette = 22 sts x 40 rounds on smaller needles, gently blocked

I will be knitting this in other yarn weights and will update the pattern as I go.
