Gaufres Hat is a comfortable, slouchy hat worked in a waffle-type stitch pattern. It is knit in the round from the bottom up, the crown shaping is integrated into the stitch pattern.


Gauge
18 sts and 40 rounds = 10x10 cm/4”x4” in Gaufres Stitch Pattern knit in the round with needle A after blocking
(Base gauge: 18 sts and 27 rounds = 10x10 cm/4”x4” in Stockinette Stitch knit in the round with a needle that is one size larger than needle A after blocking)
Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Finished Measurements
54.5 cm / 21½” circumference at widest point, 23 cm / 9” height. Comfortably fit average adult head sizes (20-24”)

Needles
· needle A: 80 cm/32” circular needle or 40 cm/16” circular needle and double pointed needles (dpns) in size 4.0 mm/ US 6 (or size to obtain gauge)
· needle B: 80 cm/32” circular needle or 40 cm/16” circular needle and double pointed needles (dpns) in size 3.5 mm/ US 4 or two sizes smaller than needle A for the Ribbing
· needle C: 80 cm/32” circular needle or 40 cm/16” circular needle and double pointed needles (dpns) in size 3.0 mm/ US 2½ or two sizes smaller than needle B for the Tubular Cast On (optional)

40 cm/16” circular needles and dpns are optional if you prefer the Magic Loop Method for working small circumferences in the round.
