Geometric Shadow Pillow
This modular pillow is designed to challenge those new to shadow knitting. The pattern provides detailed instructions in both written and charted form thus allowing the knitter to choose their preferred format. Clear diagrams present a step by step guide to the modular construction and simple directions give the additional option of working a fabric (or knitted) back.

Requirements for 30 cm (12 in) fabric backed pillow:
Rowan Handknit Cotton,(worsted, 8ply):
(MC) 2 x 50gms, Sh 335 (Thunder)
(CC) 2 x 50gms, Sh 205 (Linen)

Needles and Notions
3.75 mm (US 5) needles, or size required to obtain gauge.
Darning needle
Coordinating fabric 52 cm x 33 cm (20 1/2 x 13 in), 3 buttons, 30 cm (12 in) pillow pad, sewing needle, thread & tape measure.

Gauge
21 sts to 10 cm (4 in) measured over pattern using 3.75 mm (US 5) needles or size required to obtain gauge.

Should you prefer a knitted Back to your pillow:
Simple instructions are included. Yarn quantities for the back panel will depend on your choice of colour. If working in the recommended yarn at the required gauge in stripes of MC and CC you will need one additional ball of each shade to complete the cushion. However, if you choose to work the back in one colour only, you will need two additional balls of your chosen shade.

A larger pillow of 35 40 cm (14 16 in) can be achieved by substituting the recommended yarn for an aran (10ply), a larger needle of 4.5 5 mm (US7 8) and a gauge of 19 17 sts to 10 cm (4 in). Note that this will affect yardage requirement.
