The Gibbs Hall Cardigan is great for using up partial skeins of yarn. When combining colors, my mother always recommends throwing in a color that “doesn’t go”.

Instructions are given to knit your sweater with four bold stripes or five. It also includes a coloring page to try out different color scenarios. Consider using a color more than once if you are trying to conserve yarn. Or trade partial skeins with a buddy!

Fit is a personal choice. If you are unsure what size to make, compare the finished measurements listed on the schematic to a sweater that fits you well. For reference, the sweater shown is worn with 4 inches of ease in the body circumference and 0 inches of ease at the top of the sleeve.

SUPPLIES
• Tapestry needle for weaving in loose ends
• Waste yarn for holding stitches
• Six to nine buttons
• 4 stitch markers and several locking markers for row counting
Needles:
• 32-inch or 40-inch circular needle for the body, in the size needed to meet gauge and one size smaller for ribbing (I use a US size 8)
• Your preferred needle style for working a small circumference in the round (double points, two circulars, one long circular and the magic loop), in the size needed to meet gauge and one size smaller for ribbing

The sleeves of this sweater are worked in the round. The body is knit back and forth from the hem to the underarms and joined to the sleeves on one long needle. The raglan lines and the neckline are shaped at the same time. The collar and the button band stitches are picked up from the sweater’s unfinished edges.
