Gideon Baby Blanket
2018 Sunshine Charlotte CAL

Difficulty: Easy
Hook: J-10 (6.0 mm)
Yarn: Worsted (#4) weight, two colors - 700-800 yds
Square blanket size: 34” x 34”

Last April, my husband and I were given the extraordinary gift of adoption. As I eagerly (and impatiently) awaited our baby’s October due date, I created a baby blanket for our new baby. Not knowing the gender, I worked on designing a blanket that could work for a boy or a girl. The simplicity of this blanket does not take away from its beauty, and it’s easy enough that even a crocheter dealing with “Mommy Brain” can handle it. Been there, my friends!

This crochet blanket pattern is first worked in rows with a two-row repeat to create a supple crochet fabric without too many holes. As long as you know how to dc and ch, you’ll be fine! The border is worked in rounds in a pattern that mimics the repeat of the blanket. I first created the blanket in a solid color with a contrasting border, but I worked the second one in a self-striping yarn and can’t decide which I prefer!

The Gideon Baby Blanket is the April installment of the 2018 Sunshine Charlotte Crochet ALong, which features a different baby blanket pattern each month. This year’s CAL projects are meant to be donated to crochet charities. I’m featuring a different charity each month on my blog, but you can also donate to the charity of your choice. I design and donate these baby blankets in memory of my daughter Charlotte, who died of brain cancer in July 2015.
