Glimpse of Spring Wrist Warmers is a very simple and quick project, best for beginners or knitters who need to make a last minute present.

Each wrist warmer is worked flat in stocking stitch, then folded in half and sewed along sides, with an opening left for thumb. The sample shown here is knit using light worsted weight yarn and size 3mm US 2 needles (such small needles give a tight gauge and make a very compact and extra warm fabric).

Project is so basic, that chances of making wrist warmers special and appealing mostly depend on the yarn colours one chooses. Here I used gray and green yarns and added to each one two strands of thin melange mohair, which shades (and somehow ‘hides’) the pattern stripes. I wanted to reproduce a wintry field in which there is a glimpse of spring (the mohair was supposed to create a ‘crocus flower effect’), hence the name I chose for the project.

Gauge

5.5 sts and 7.5 rows to measure 2.5x2.5cm /1x1 inches over stocking st using size 3mm US 2 1/2 needles.

Materials

1 ball of light worsted weight yarn in gray/main colour (approximately 50 gr/1.7 oz)
1 ball of light worsted weight yarn in green/contrast colour (less than 50 gr/1.7 oz)
1 ball of thin melange mohair yarn (optional)
A pair of 3mm US 2 1/2 knitting needles
A tapestry needle

Size

Wrist warmers fit a size M/L hand. However, since they are basically two rectangles folded in half, making them smaller or larger shouldn’t be a problem: just cast on the number of stitches which according to gauge matches your desired width.
