Between mittens and gloves, there is a compromise between warmth or dexterity. These change that compromise by giving up a little less of the warmth of mittens than gloves and a little less of the lost dexterity of mittens. Perhaps these will be a better answer for your cold weather needs.

The pattern is written out step by step in two ways. Each part is written out in a way that should allow the more accomplished knitters to make any size they want so long as they know their gauge. After each instruction, the exact steps I used for my own glovtens are written both as an example to help illustrate the steps and as a specific pattern that can be followed.

The size for the exact instructions is roughly a women’s large or a men’s medium. It is for a hand 8 inches around and 7 inches long. Knitting using a slightly larger gauge would make proportionally larger glovtens and smaller gauge would produce proportionally smaller glovtens.
