Yes, this is what appears to be, color-work lace. And while I wouldn’t say “it’s a piece of cake” it is simply knitting stripes and lace at the same time while strategically slipping stitches. Not a beginner technique, but with attention to detail I believe not the hardest thing out there either.

With very little solid anything in this pattern a stockinette gauge is useless - so the pattern includes a little sample pattern for knitters to test out their color choices and get familiar with the new tricks of this technique while finding their gauge.

This shawl marks the beginning of my exploration of another great house featured in Frank Herbert’s Dune novels - House Corrino. The Golden Lion Throne is the seat from which the Emperor of the Universe rules his domain. Inspired by the decadence of a peak civilization I looked to the hedonistic Art Deco age for inspiration in both the design and colors.

Regarding Needles
This shawl gets pretty darn long, I recommend using a circular needle with a cable of at least 42 inches unless you are comfortable with working with your stitches really bunched up.

Yardage
The pattern requires approximately 300 yards each of 2 complementary colors of fingering weight yarn. As always, the designer is available for support. We would love to have you visit our Rav group Barbara Benson Designs group,
