When life gets really hectic, do you wish sometimes you could have lived in the “Good Old Days”? We always have this romantic notion that everything seemed so simple back then when people would grow everything they needed, spin their own yarn and weave their own cloth to be hand stitched into one-of-a-kind garments, but actually, all was pretty labor-intensive work! When one had to gather plants and berries to dye their own handspun before weaving it into cloth, people wouldn’t allow anything to go to waste, not even the smallest fabric remnant. Leftovers from cutting out a dress pattern would be stitched together to make something smaller but still useful, such as a neck kerchief.

This triangular shawl in four different subdued colors lets you look like “Good Old Days” – it’s knit from one corner to the widest part with stitches picked up along the edge and wedges knit on the side of the shawl, more stitches picked up along the top edge and a small Aster stitch border added at the end, resembling narrow strips of fabric stitched together.

While recreating the looks of the “Good Old Days”, you might want to still keep today’s conveniences, like circular needles and patterns you can use on your phone, though!
