This is an adjustable mitten pattern intended for men.

The striping pattern is included in the pattern notes.

The .pdf does work, but it’s a fairly big file. Waiting a couple of minutes should get the .pdf to you shortly.

Have fun!

A clarification for adjusting the size…

Let’s say that your hand is 8 inches in circumference around the knuckles as opposed to 7. Because the gauge is 18 sts/4 inches, you would want to add 4 more stitches to your cast on number for snuggly mittens. If you wanted a looser fit, you’d cast on 6 extra because 18/4= 4.5 and you want to have an even number for the 1x1 ribbing at the bottom of the mitten.

For snuggly mittens, your cast on number is 38. 38x38% is 14.44, so you’d take 14 stitches and put them on a stitch holder.

For looser mittens, your cast on number is 40. 40x38% is 15.2, so you’d take 15 stitches and put them on a stitch holder for the thumb.

You would then need to decrease in pattern which wouldn’t be too hard because the decreases are matched at either side of the mitten much like the toe of a sock. You would basically be adding a few extra rounds to the decrease rows.

I recommend changing the gusset size because hands are proportional. If your hand is big, then your thumb is big, and it’s much more comfortable to have enough wiggle room for your thumb.

This works both ways. If your hands are smaller, you would decrease the cast on amount and decrease the gusset proportionately.
