This hat is designed for mindless knitting and stash-busting. And it’s purl-free! The pattern is suitable for an advanced beginner to intermediate knitter, with nothing more complicated than decreases and picking up stitches. A skinny strip is knit flat and joined in a circle to make a headband with a rounded button flap. Stitches are picked up from the headband edge for the crown. I provide two alternate crown shapings, as well as instructions to adapt the pattern for different yarn sizes. If you want, there’s even a spreadsheet that will generate an adjusted pattern for you.

Thanks to the brave souls who tried the original pattern over the last two years and posted feedback! I’m sorry I’ve been so slow to respond to it. I am now a much more experienced knitter and can appreciate how confusing the original pattern was! I hope that the latest version of the pattern is much easier to use.
