Harbor Village was part of the design collection for my 2017 make. wear. love. fall sweater retreat, with yarn from our vendor Yarn Culture.

Even in the summertime, Maine can require a bit of wool at a moment’s notice. This lightweight cardigan is versatile and easy to wear. Roomy, gathered pockets are perfect for snuggling, and a vertical lace pattern keeps things light.

A few notes on this design:

The fit in this sweater is extremely easygoing and you won’t have many (any?) fit adjustments to make.

There are some more intermediate techniques, though! Please make sure you’re comfortable with, or adventurous about:

  • incorporating stitches into a pattern as you work increases
  • working a 3-needle bind-off
  • mattress stitching

The cardi is worked in three pieces from the bottom up, closed with a 3-needle bind-off at the top of the shoulder/ arm, and seamed under the arm/on the sides.

The sleeve cuffs are picked up and worked down toward the wrist, and the cardigan opening is picked up and worked in toward the center, both in 1x1 ribbing.

Slanted pockets are then worked sideways, starting with increases at the button band edge and worked out toward the side seam, gathered at the sides and then seamed. The pockets’ top edges are allowed to roll in toward the pocket.

This non-tailored construction, combined with the beautiful hand of the fabric, make for an extremely easy-to-wear, figure-flattering (and forgiving) cardigan. I hope you’ll give it a try!

You’ll need 4 (4, 4, 4, 5, 5, 5, 5, 6, 6, 6, 7) hanks of Delirium for the sizes 30 1/2 (31 1/2, 32 1/2, 35 3/4, 36 3/4, 40, 43 1/4, 44 1/4, 48 1/2, 49 1/2, 53 3/4, 58 1/4)” / 77.5 (80, 82.5, 91, 93.5, 101.5, 110, 112.5, 123, 125.5, 136.5, 148) cm.
