Havshagen (sea field) mittens are named after a neighbourhood in eastern Helsinki. It’s a big, grey block of concrete buildings from 1960’s, with amazing views to the sea and archipelago. These baby mittens are a fun and fast knit for an advanced beginner, and featuring only two rounds of stranding would be a good starting point if you have never done colorwork before. The mittens are thumbless and they are knitted from top down.

Sizing: One baby size to fi t for a 3-6 month old baby.

Materials: Less than 50 g (137 yards) sport weight wool or wool blend yarn in main color (MC), and much less than 50 g in contrasting color (CC).
The sample was knitted with Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino (50g = 125 m/137 yards), dark blue 340008 (CC) and off white 340012 (MC), and used about 30 g (82 yards) MC and less than 10 g (27 yards) CC.

Skill level: Advanced beginner. The pattern includes knitting in round, KFB, Judy’s magic cast on, EZ’s sewn bind off and stranding. Colorwork instructions are both written and charted, the construction only written.
