The colors of Harrisville’s WATERshed are so beautifully heathered that I wanted to knit a sweater in about 10 of them! Because I am on the impatient side and wanted to knit them all Right Now, I decided to use my six favorites in a fall cardigan in fall colors. This backfired. Now I want a sweater in each of those colors :)

This cozy cardigan can be knit in 2 colors or as many as 10. Two rows of stranded colorwork transition from one color to the next. Construction is an adaptation of Barbara Walker’s top-down seamless simultaneous set-in sleeve construction from her book Knitting From the Top. Modeled cardigan is being worn with about an inch of positive ease.

Autumn started early for us this year as we began to see fall colors in early September in Newfoundland. We followed the season down the east coast and were still enjoying the colors in mid-November in Virginia.

Hay Cove lies just east of L’Anse aux Meadows and was no doubt frequently visited by the Vikings. Today there is a small village and a hiking trail up to the top of the cliffs overlooking the cove. A bit worried about turning a corner on the trail and bumping into a moose, we sang and clapped our hands and talked very loudly as we walked!

Our Newfoundland trip inspired a collection of patterns - Northward.
