Flowers and Hearts - a perfect match!

This pattern came about when I was playing around with a small heart pattern I found.
I wanted to make it bigger so I could use it to make some bunting and I thought a flower in the centre would look cute - and it turned out even better than I imagined!

This pattern is for the Heart in Bloom motif.
A squared version is now available in my Ravelry store.

This is a lovely motif for use as bunting like I’ve done, as a large appliqué for a bag, blanket or jumper or other decoration. It looks great in 2 contrasting colours as it really makes the flower pop, though it would look equally lovely all in one colour.

Level: Intermediate
The pattern uses a variety of techniques and taller stitches - though tutorial links, photos and a chart make it accessible for advanced beginners looking for a small challenge or who can’t resist these super sweet hearts!

Stitches used: Double magic circle, sl st, ch, sc, hdc, dc, tr, dtr, blo, cluster.

Yarn: Approx. 20 m (22 yards) 8ply (DK) yarn.
I’ve used Bendigo Woollen Mills 8ply cotton in Pink Rose and Glacier.
You can use any yarn for this pattern with an appropriate hook though the finished size will vary.

Finished size:
11.5 cm x 11 cm (4 1/2 in x 4 3/8 in)
