ERRATA: Versions prior to v.3.2 have an error in the chart. Row 24 is missing two decreases. Row 24 should be identical to row 20.

Version 3.2 of the pattern is revised with additional photos and tweaked wording and fixes the chart error.

From v3.2 of the pattern:

You may be surprised to learn that this seemingly complex lace cowl is knit mostly in stockinette. It knits up quickly in bulky or super bulky yarn. See the last page of the pattern for Tips, Fun Facts, Variations and Strategies to help you along your way. Happy knitting!

Gauge
Gauge is not essential for this project as long as you like the fabric. But, as a guide:
Bulky: 19 sts = 4 inches in pattern stitch.
Super-Bulky: 12sts = 4 inches in pattern stitch.

Materials:
Needles: 28 inch US #10 circular for bulky, #11 for super bulky.

Yarn: Choose about 180 yards of delicious bulky or super-bulky yarn. Here are some suggestions:

 Bulky Yarn: 2 skeins Malabrigo Mecha 100% Merino; 130 yards per 100 gram skein {Pictured above in Polar Morn colorway}

or

 Bulky Yarn: 2 skeins Classic Elite MountainTop Chalet alpaca/bamboo; 98 yards per 50 gram skein {Pictured right in Slate colorway. Completed project weighs approximately 62 grams and used just under 125 yards of bulky yarn. This yarn results in a soft, stretchy cowl.}

or

 Super Bulky Yarn: 2 Skeins Malabrigo Yarns Rasta 100% Merino: 90 yards per 150 gram skein. {Pictured left in Sunset colorway. This yarn resulted in a dense, substantial cowl.}

or

 Super Bulky Yarn: 2 Skeins Madelinetosh ASAP.

This cowl design was inspired by the delightful knitwear in the STARZ Outlander television series and was engineered at the behest of the Outlander Pattern Central Stitchenachs.
