Another market bag inspired by Portland’s many farmer’s markets, this heavy duty bag is named after the lively neighborhood of Hillsdale. The Hillsdale Market Bag is well-suited for visiting the library, bakery, or farmer’s market. The distinctive elongated stitch pattern is shown to greatest effect when carrying heavier items like books or root vegetables. The effect of bright strong color and open stitches, the market bag looks fun and youthful, so it could also work for toting sandbox toys.

The bag looks best in variegated yarns that are either space-dyed, like the picture, or hand-dyed. Dramatic and wild colorways enliven the elongated stitch pattern that showcases the basic look of the yarn. Do choose a plied cotton yarn, so that this market bag can carry heavy items. Also think about the durability and ease of washing because you will want this bag to last years.
