Here’s what the Guide has to say about Babel fish:

“The Babel fish is small, yellow, leech-like, and probably the oddest thing in the universe. It feeds on brain wave energy, absorbing all unconscious frequencies and then excreting telepathically a matrix formed from the conscious frequencies and nerve signals picked up from the speech centres of the brain, the practical upshot of which is that if you stick one in your ear, you can instantly understand anything said to you in any form of language: the speech you hear decodes the brain wave matrix.”

This little guy is inspired by the Babel fish from the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy! (Using the animation from the most recent movie, not the series!) He’s a fairly simple construction with only two separate pieces and then some surface crochet. Then he’s finished off with a few special details to make your Babel fish really pop with personality!!

You can make him with either sock yarn and a C hook (and make him a little bigger) or size 5 Perle cotton and a steel size 5 hook (and make him the size in my example). The instructions are the same for both and the different materials are listed in the instructions.

Update 1: I have designed a photo tutorial for the mouth section of the Babel fish. You can find it on my website here.
