The Hold On Tight fingerless mitts are gender-neutral and designed to show off any gorgeous variegated yarn in your stash. It is a quick and easy project, mainly worked in basic Stockinette stitch, but still eye-catching thanks to the smocked motif running off-center across the back of the hand!

Construction:
These richly textured mitts are worked in the round from the cuff up with thumb gussets. They’re framed by 1x3 ribbing so the smocked motif can flow seamlessly from the cast-on to the bind-off edge. The smocked stitches are worked on a reverse Stockinette stitch background and bounded by two single columns of twisted stitches, which are also seamless from top to bottom of the mitt. Directional increases are set in place to shape the thumb gusset then thumb stitches are placed on hold. After completing the hand, held stitches are retrieved and the thumb is worked in the round. A few more rounds of simple 1x3 ribbing end both the mitt and the thumb edges.
